The school store opens Thursday, October 6.

This year, the Myers school store will be open the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month.

Most items are no more than a few dollars, and many are under a dollar.
We have school supplies, like pencils, erasers, crayons, and memo pads,

and fun stuff like card games, Silly Putty, puzzles and tops.

The PTA's "Purple Pads" make it easy to send a note to school on busy mornings -- just fill in a few blanks, check the appropriate box, and your done.

Pads are $3.00 each. Print the order form and send a check to school with your child. Your pads will be sent home with your child.

Gift Card Program

Gift cards are a popular gift for those folks that are hard to shop for, and if you buy them through the PTA, they support our school’s programs such as our Arts in Education assemblies and trips, Parents as Reading Partners, and much more.

But you don’t have to restrict your purchases to gifts! If you buy cards for your your own use, for ordinary purchases you would make anyway, you can support the PTA without spending one extra penny!

Through our Gift Card program, you purchase cards at face value – just as if you purchased them in the store. However when you buy from us, the PTA makes money on every card you purchase. Plus, we have a wide variety of cards to choose from (no driving from store to store): there are hundreds of participating retailers, including many of your favorite grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, clothing merchants, and more. Companies like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Borders, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Wal-Mart, Uno, Chili’s, and Amazon.com all participate.

This school year, we will be taking orders for gift cards as shown at right. Unfortunately, no late orders can be accepted, so please send your order promptly to avoid disappointment.

Reflections Invitation

The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program open to students in the areas of literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography, and film/video production. Professionals in the arts fields will serve as judges.

The theme for this year’s Reflection program is “Beauty is…”

If your child would like to participate in this year’s program, please return the response form to your child’s classroom teacher by November 2nd. Program guidelines and application information will be sent home to interested students.

Wappingers Congress of Teachers Food Drive May 18-27

The Wappingers Congress of Teachers is sponsoring a food drive in each of our buildings during May 18th-27th. Staff, students, and parents are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items and place them in the collection boxes that will be in or near the main office in each building.

The food drive will benefit the Zion Food Pantry, which is 100% non-denominational with regard to the people they assist. This food pantry serves 65-70 families per week and recently they were able to give each of their 70 clients:

1 box of cereal
2 cans of tuna fish
2 cans of fruit
2 cans of vegetables
2 cans of soup
2 boxes of macaroni and cheese
1 jar of peanut butter
1 jar of jelly
1 jar/can of spaghetti sauce
1 box of pasta
1 can of stew

Donations are not limited to the above list, but are an example of what the food pantry might supply to the families each week.

Your help is greatly appreciated in this effort to give back to our community.

The number one reason to join the PTA is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:

Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening at Myers.
Discover Great Resources. The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.
Tap into a Network. Parenting is not easy—it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind.
Watch Yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause—your child and all children in the community.
Speak Up. Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.
Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events—all vital to a school’s success.

Use Gift Cards & Support the PTA

You are familiar with gift cards -- the gift you buy when you don't know what else to give. But you can use gift cards yourself: they are prepaid cards or negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash. You can use them to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials. And with every purchase, you earn revenue for our school.

How Do Gift Cards Provide Funding for Myers Corners?

The distributor purchases a large number of gift cards from grocery stores, department stores, and other merchants. Because the cards are purchased with cash upfront, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. The Myers Corners PTA then buys these cards from the distributor, also at a discount, and resells them at face value. The discount—from two to fifteen percent or more—is revenue that we can use to fund Arts in Education, Parents as Reading Partners, and the many other PTA programs that promote academic excellence at our school.

Gift cards are a popular program because it does not require you to sell anything to raise funds to support the PTA. In fact, you don't have to spend any money on anything you don't already buy! You can generate revenue just by making the regular purchases you would make anyway: groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline.

About the PTA

The purpose of the PTA is:

To promote the welfare of the children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship
To raise the standards of home life
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

What does this mean?

You want to be involved in your child’s education. You want to be familiar with the place they spend most of their day. THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE. The PTA is organized to help not only your child, but all children, receive a better education. More than 30 years of research has proven that children do better when their parents are involved both at home and at school.

Want to meet the parents of children who had your child’s teacher in the past? They’re here.
Think we should have more extra-curricular opportunities like a Spelling Bee or a Math Fun Night? This is the place to meet other people who know how to get the ball rolling.
Wish the school was painted something other than institutional white and green? Bring it up at a meeting, help organize a committee. Even if you’re allergic to paint fumes, there will still be a need for people to solicit donations, recruit and organize volunteers, or bake something to serve to the volunteers for lunch.

There is something for everyone at the PTA. Don’t have time to come in to school? There are lots of things that can be done at home – counting Box Tops, typing a flyer to home with the kids, baking something for a bake sale. Have some extra time to come into school? Volunteers to take pictures for the yearbook, scoop ice cream at the ice cream social, or help decorate the PTA bulletin board are always in demand.
